A WWE Hall of Famer recently shared his thoughts on Swerve Strickland's controversial comments about his run in the Stamford-based promotion. The name in question is none other than Teddy Long.
Swerve Strickland was signed to WWE from 2019 to 2021 before his shocking release. He seemed to have had a promising run ahead of him as he had a great NXT North American Championship reign on the former black and gold brand before moving up to the main roster.
However, Swerve was released by the promotion a couple of weeks after his main roster debut on SmackDown. A fan recently asked Swerve about his underwhelming WWE run on social media, Swerve responded with a bold claim that his run in the Triple H-led promotion didn't work due to some political moves.
In a recent chat on Sportskeeda's exclusive The Wrestling Time Machine podcast with Mac Davis, Teddy Long questioned what Swerve's idea of 'political moves' meant as he had no idea what Strickland is talking about.
"Well, yeah, but he's a guy that's just breaking in up into the business, so I don't even understand how he even understands what political moves mean. But he's gotta explain what political move means to me before I can accept that. I have no idea what you talking about." [2:48 - 3:40]
WWE veteran Teddy Long understands where Swerve Strickland is coming from
In the same episode, former SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long further spoke on Swerve Strickland's comments. The veteran stated that he understood Swerve's situation on not wanting to go into detail about his controversial WWE run. Teddy believes Swerve is focused on making a career in All Elite Wrestling.
"Then, like I said, political moves didn't mean a lot of things and sometimes, I can understand Swerve [Strickland] maybe don't wanna speak on what it really is right now because he's trying to get himself a career going there but you know, I understand." [4:00 - 4:34]
Swerve is reportedly locked in with AEW for the next few years. It will be interesting to see if he ever returns to the Stamford-based promotion in the future.
