There are not many in the pro-wrestling business that can claim to be more unique than AEW star Orange Cassidy, and he knows it. The 40-year-old star recently opened up on the origins of his current character, explaining how it evolved to what it is today.
Orange is one of the biggest names in Tony Khan's company, and not without reason. His talent in the ring, as well as his charisma, has earned him a sizeable fanbase. Add his unique gimmick to the mix, and the pro wrestling business has a star that stands out in every crowd.
Speaking in an interview with Bill Apter for Sportskeeda, he was asked about how he started his gimmick. Orange responded to the legendary journalist by stating:
"Well I just embraced who I am and I wanted to be different. I wanted to be unique. So I tried to do the opposite of what everybody else was saying in a way that works into professional wrestling, just in order to stand out." [2:26 onwards]
The AEW star's hands-in-pockets gimmick was improvised
Orange Cassidy also shed light on how he started putting his hands in his pockets mid-match, which was an interesting story.
Answering a question from the veteran journalist Bill Apter in the same interview, the AEW star said:
"I was in a match on the indies in Beyond Wrestling, and somebody was like mocking me, and kinda like trying to get in my head or whatever you know. Basically saying I can't wrestle, whatever it is. So I said okay, I can beat you with my hands in my pockets. And I put my hands in my pocket and I did it." [2:56 onwards]
Orange Cassidy recently lost his title match against Jon Moxley at AEW Full Gear. It remains to be seen what is next for him down the line.
