A major star is celebrating five years with AEW, and she took to social media to discuss this milestone. After looking back at her journey, she also had a few words to say to Tony Khan.
Red Velvet first competed in AEW on June 10, 2020, on Dark, as she took on Brandi Rhodes and Allie (AKA The Bunny) in tag team action. She had the opportunity to face several big names on the roster during her few years with the company. She then began competing in ROH in 2023 and has held the promotion's Women's TV Championship since July 2024, with a reign of over 320 days.
The 33-year-old took to Instagram to celebrate the milestone she had reached, posting photos and videos from across the years. She discussed her journey and how she has overcome each challenge.
"5 YEARS in AEW. 💥 From the girl who ran to the ring to prove herself… to the woman who now walks in with gold on her waist and fire in her soul. I’ve been knocked down. I’ve been underestimated. I’ve walked through injury, rehab, doubt and came out stronger every time. Every setback just sharpened the vision. Every comeback? Made me hungrier. From stepping into the spotlight when no one expected me… to main eventing, to making herstory as the ROH Women’s World TV Champion I’ve grown, evolved, and poured everything into this."
She also thanked Tony Khan for believing in her and for all those who have accompanied her on this journey. She mentioned that this was only just the beginning, and she had more to show.
"To @tonyrkhan , thank you for believing in me when I was still finding my voice. To every coach, talent, and fan who’s been part of this journey thank you. Your love and energy have carried me. This isn’t just a milestone… it’s a statement. Red Velvet isn’t done. AEW hasn’t seen the best of me yet. Here’s to the next chapter. Here’s to more gold, more grit, and more unforgettable moments. I’ve been cooking for 5 years straight and baby, the heat’s only getting stronger. 🍫🔥," she wrote.
Red Velvet wants to face Mercedes Moné in AEW
In December, Red Velvet successfully defended her title against Leyla Hirsch at ROH Final Battle.
During the media scrum, she addressed possible future challengers, and when asked who she wanted to face off with, she urged Tony Khan to book her a match with Mercedes Moné. She was willing to take on the challenge.
"Are we staying in Ring of Honor or can I say anybody? Anybody. TK, give me [Mercedes] Mone. Everybody wants it. Let’s go. Let’s make it happen. Let’s do it. Absolutely. Line them up. You know I always cook, Tony. He knows. Let’s keep cooking. Let’s bring them. I never turn down a challenge. I’m ready for anybody and everyone, so bring them. I’m ready. I’m hungry."
The CEO is on a roll in AEW lately, but she has not responded to this challenge. Should she suddenly be open to it, she may add yet another title to her belt collection if she can take down Red Velvet.
