AEW star Wardlow has been out of action since March. A recent report has provided an underwhelming update on his future.
Mr Mayhem's last televised match was against Samoa Joe for the AEW World Championship at Dynamite Big Business in March. Wardlow is also a part of Adam Cole's Undisputed Kingdom faction. However, due to his absence, he has not been featured with the group in the past several months.
In the recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that Wardlow is one of the talents not being used by All Elite Wrestling despite potentially being injury-free:
"For those asking about Wardlow, he was shown at the Jaguars game on 9/15. He’s just one of those guys not being used.”
Bill Apter believes Jeff Jarrett can manage Wardlow in AEW
In a recent edition of Sportskeeda's SmackTalk podcast, Senior Editor Bill Apter spoke about Wardlow's current creative direction. He noted that the former TNT Champion might have not landed a position in WWE due to his voice but is disappointed to see his current direction in AEW.
Bill Apter stated that pairing Wardlow with Jeff Jarrett as his mouthpiece would generate a lot of heat from the All Elite audience on Mr Mayhem:
"I've said this on so many shows and in our newsletter as well. What the hell did they do with Wardlow? This guy could've been Batista part two. You know what the WWE would've done with this guy? The main issue with Wardlow in WWE—I was talking with another wrestler about this the other night—is his voice didn't match his body. So what I would've done—the logical guy to be his manager would've been Jeff Jarrett. Can you imagine the heat of Jeff Jarrett being Wardlow's manager?" he said. [From 1:15:00 to 1:16:30]
Wardlow has been out of action since the Big Business Dynamite. It will be interesting to see if the promotion brings him back on television later this year.
