Fortnite Creative 2.0 (UEFN) Roadmap for 2023 and ahead - Explained

Fortnite Creative 2.0, also known as Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), is finally out. Epic Games released it on Wednesday, March 22, and players are learning how to create incredible maps with it. The new mode is in its early stages of development, yet it already offers numerous game-changing tools. However, Epic has revealed the roadmap for 2023 and beyond, showing everything that UEFN will get within the next few years.

The end goal of Fortnite Creative 2.0 is to let creators develop AAA games within Fortnite. The video game developer will make this happen by releasing more tools and improving Verse, the UEFN programming language.

Epic Games was originally supposed to release Unreal Editor for Fortnite with the release of Chapter 4. However, there were several problems that postponed its release all the way to March.

While UEFN has been released, it's still in the beta phase. Due to this, both creators and players will run into some glitches while designing or playing custom maps. While this is expected to happen in the first few weeks, Epic will release bug fixes soon.

In addition to these fixes, the video game creator will also release many other features for Fortnite Creative 2.0.

The image above shows a complete roadmap for Unreal Editor for Fortnite. It can be used to create smaller games at the moment, but that's not the end goal for Epic Games. The ultimate ambition is the creation of AAA games within Fortnite.

While this sounds somewhat unbelievable, it's very likely to happen. Epic designed Unreal Engine, which runs Fortnite and many other popular video games. The game engine has more than enough features that can be used to develop full games.

Fortnite Creative 2.0 is all about integrating Unreal Engine's editing tools into Fortnite. Considering that players are able to create mind-blowing maps already, it will be interesting to see how incredible creator-made maps will be in the future.

By the end of 2023, players will be able to develop large battle royale and MOBA games. In early 2024, Epic Games will release tools that will allow players to create open-world games within Fortnite Creative 2.0, as well as strategy games.

Sometime in 2025, the video game developer is expected to improve UEFN to the point where it will be used to create large and evolving multi-game worlds. Talented creators will also be able to add competitive seasons to their custom islands.

Considering that Epic Games will share 40% of the Item Shop's net revenue with creators, we expect many players to start learning UEFN and begin developing spectacular maps.
