Has Cam Newton retired? Exploring former NFL MVP's current playing status

As of March 2023, former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has not officially retired from professional football. However, his future in the NFL remains uncertain.

After a disappointing spell with the New England Patriots, Newton's Panthers return did not bear much fruit either. Now a free agent for well over a year, a lot of questions remain unanswered about his playing future.

The quarterback himself, though, has left no stone unturned in ensuring the world knows that he still feels ready for a starting job in the NFL. He recently tweeted that he would be throwing at Auburn's pro day to impress scouts ahead of the 2023 NFL season.

After a standout career at Auburn University, where he won the Heisman Trophy and led the Tigers to a national championship in 2010, Newton was selected first overall by the Carolina Panthers in the 2011 NFL Draft.
