Best and worst of WWE Super ShowDown- Major titles change hands, Current Champion buried?

Can WWE Super ShowDown be described as a good show? I think, at best, it qualifies as a strictly average show where the only redeeming factor was that it did not go on for longer than it actually should have.

But one cannot dispute the fact that it was certainly a very memorable show and I shall delve upon the good and bad in this article, for your reading pleasure. Be sure to leave a comment and let me know if you agree or indeed if you disagree with my opinions.

Let me start off by saying that I am not as upset about Goldberg becoming the Universal Champion as a lot of you seem to be. I watched the show as a fan, without my booking hat on, and I want to see where the road leads, although thanks to the nature of my job, I have a few ideas.

So, let's dive straight into WWE Super ShowDown then.

#1 Best: New SmackDown Tag Team Champions

It was time for a change at the top of the SmackDown Tag Team Division and The Miz and John Morrison captured the titles at the right moment, I felt. The New Day will always be in the mix on SmackDown, but The Miz and Morrison needed this win. Now, it will allow for a brand new team like Heavy Machinery to possibly enter the title picture. And it will allow The Miz and John Morrison to remind everyone why they are so very good.

It can also allow someone like Kofi Kingston to potentially work with promising heels on SmackDown and elevate them to the next level. This was the right decision and it was probably the best thing that happened at WWE Super ShowDown.

#1 Worst: Andrade gets pinned

I personally did not have an issue with how the Gauntlet match ended, with the arrival of The Undertaker and the confrontation with AJ Styles, of course. There were so many advertisements about The Undertaker, that the audience knew that this would happen, a lot before it actually did.

What I did have an issue with is the fact that R-Truth scored a victory over Bobby Lashley, who was being touted as a challenger for Brock Lesnar as well as Andrade, who is the United States Champion. The way the pin was executed was also suspect, and I genuinely wonder if it was a punishment from WWE towards Andrade, considering his recent wellness policy violation, meaning that he is not in the good graces of the company.

The only reason I have an issue with the overall way that this match went is because R-Truth did not win it and chances are that he will remain in the comedy mid-card role for a long time now, making these pinfalls entirely meaningless indeed.

#2 Best: Brock Lesnar destroys Ricochet in no time

This may be an unpopular decision, but I really do think that Brock Lesnar needed to squash Ricochet at WWE Super ShowDown 2020. Nobody came into the event with the belief that there would be a brand new WWE Champion. Drew McIntyre vs. Brock Lesnar is the big match for WrestleMania and there was no way at all that it would change.

And therefore, it was necessary for Brock Lesnar to remind us all that he is the real deal. He did not allow Ricochet a chance to even be competitive during the course of the match and destroyed him before the contest could even get underway. And now, he looks absolutely like a force of nature and Drew McIntyre is waiting in the wings to take him down with a claymore kick or four.

Ricochet will certainly get his due in due course of time but at this point, I have to say that Brock Lesnar did the right thing by obliterating Mr. One and Only in no time.

#2 Worst: Mansoor

I genuinely mean no disrespect to Mansoor who is a talented young man who's doing his job. But did you notice the chorus of boos that accompanied him when he came out to face Dolph Ziggler at WWE Super ShowDown? Even the audience in attendance is sick of seeing a man who only wins in their country and loses everywhere else.

It's become predictable to a point where the audience that wants to root for him knows the result even before he steps out to perform. The best way to remedy this situation would be to have some kind of build for every match where the audience can invest in the storyline that Mansoor is involved in. Maybe have Dolph Ziggler bully Mansoor with the help of his friend Robert Roode, leading to the young man pledging revenge and retribution upon both the heels.

A throwaway match of the nature that Mansoor was involved in this week is really insulting to the audience in Saudi Arabia as well, being served the same thing again and again.

#3 Best/Worst: Brand new Universal Champion

Wrestling Twitter is in a tizzy at the moment after Goldberg defeated The Fiend, ending his dominant streak with a Jackhammer. It is very obvious why this falls into the 'worst' category, considering The Fiend is one of the company's best creations in the recent past, but all is not lost, in my opinion.

The point of a Super ShowDown is that when two forces of nature clash, there is bound to be a winner and a loser in the contest. Goldberg is pretty much going to go on to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania and for Reigns to capture the Championship and not get booed, The Fiend could not be the Champion.

So, even though Goldberg is technically a babyface at this point, he will be a heel in the eyes of the audience that pays a ticket to watch WrestleMania live. I don't know whether the title change makes sense or if WWE could have booked the whole thing in a different manner, quite honestly.

There's one thing I do know. This article will end with a picture of WWE's resident Goddess, Alexa Bliss.
