In an interview with AnimeNewsNetwork, on November 15, anime industry professional Shinichirou Watanabe (the director of Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and the upcoming Lazarus) confirmed that all of his series took place in the same universe.

While the interview only confirmed three series, every series that the author penned took place in the same universe. Shinichirou Watanabe is a Japanese screenwriter, anime filmmaker, and producer.

He entered the anime industry as an assistant and soon climbed his way to become one of the most well-known directors. During the interview, the author also shed light on the highlights of his career, including his relationship with the John Wick director, Chad Stahelski.

In a special New York Comic-Con interview with the anime news website AnimeNewsNetwork, Shinichirou Watanabe was asked some burning questions. While the interview focused on the director's career talk, for the first question, the interviewer asked Shinichirou about how his latest project related to his past ones.

The Cowboy Bebop director replied with a single statement, saying that he always thought his series took place in the same universe. The interviewer then asked specifically about the series Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Space Dandy. The author nodded and confirmed this in English by saying 'Of course.'

Cowboy Bebop was the first series that Shinichirou Watanabe was known for, more specifically for his direction and story writing. He acted as the series' director, scriptwriter, and storyboard writer (for almost all the episodes). After this series, the industry professional continued delivering innovative storylines in the form of anime.

In 2014, the author penned Terror in Resonance, which was animated by the animation studio MAPPA. A few years later, Shinichirou Watanabe penned the series Carole and Tuesday, animated by Bones Animating Studio, for which he also acted as the director, scriptwriter, and storyboard writer. His latest work, Lazarus, is set to be released in 2025, animated by MAPPA.

While the talk about the director's anime series taking place in the same universe only lasted a while, the focus of the interview soon switched to his latest work which is set to be released in 2025. The author expressed his gratefulness for working with professionals like Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick. The interview further delved into how the anime director saw him give his support.

As revealed in the interview, Shinichirou Watanabe was impressed by Chad Stahelski's direction and his team reached out to the Hollywood director for tips for the anime director's Lazarus. However, they volunteered to choreograph the anime.

When asked about their required budget, the Hollywood director said not to worry about such things. He was inspired by Shinichirou Watanabe's projects (specifically Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo), so he wanted to pay back the anime director, as per the interview.
