Jonathan Joestar was the first Joestar to fight against the evil Dio Brando, who turned into a vampire after using the Stone Mask. He wanted to rule over humanity with his power, but Jonathan learned Ripple's abilities from Zeppeli to defeat him.

At first, when Jonathan stabs Dio with an infused ripple sword, Dio severed his own head to survive. After that, Jonathan married Erina and boarded a ship for honeymoon, which was going towards America. Dio entered the ship and tried to steal Jonathan's body, but he caused an explosion in the ship to kill Dio and put Erina, who had his infant Joseph, in a coffin that Dio brought into the ship that was explosion-proof. However, in the end, Dio survives at the very bottom of the sea and appears in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders.
