Who is Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop?

Spike Spiegel is the main protagonist of The Cowboy Bebop, who was the bounty hunter in the year 2071 and a former member of the criminal group Red Dragon Syndicate.

Cowboy Bebop is a Japanese fiction manga-based anime that follows the story of Spike alongside other crew members who work as bounty hunters together and travel through a spaceship named Bebop to catch the criminals as a legal bounty hunter. It was created by Shinichiro Watanabe, and the character design was done by Toshiro Kawamoto and illustrated by Yutaka Nanten.

Spike was born on Mars in 2044. Right after his birth, he became an Orphan, but it was unknown where his parents were or how they died. He grew up in the slums and became a thief, which made the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate hire him. He soon progressed to the top ranks.

Spike Spiegel Role in Cowboy Bebop

Spike is the main character of the series, and his story revolves around the bounty hunting his crew does. It also revolves around his past, when he worked for the Red Dragon Syndicate. There, he was friends with Vicious and Julia, who used to have a relationship. When they came too close, Spike asked Julia to go with him by leaving the criminal group. Still, Vicious learned about it and told his group to attack them.

Vicious also told Julia to kill Spike, which she refused. After escaping from the Syndicate, Spike joined Jet Black in 2068 and aboard his spaceship Bebop to catch his former Syndicate member, Asimov Solensan, who ran away from the group with his wife, Katerina Solensan. Soon, other crew members, including Ein, Edward (Ed), and Faye Valentine, join them as bounty hunters.

Spike, alongside his crewmate, keeps looking for Julia while capturing the criminals as the licensed bounty hunter. He then met with Julia at the Cemetery while picking up a rose in his hand, and then she asked him to run away, which they wanted to do. They went to Annie's shop to find out that she had been shot and, before she died, told them that Vicious had killed all the elders and was now the leader of the criminal group Red Dragon Crime Syndicate. Just after that, the assassins of the Red Dragon chase them and attack them, but Spike kills them all and still is not able to save Julia, who has been shot in the back and falls to the ground.

Later, Spike and Vicious had the final in which Spike was able to kill Vicious. After killing Vicious, Spike went back to Bebop to say a final goodbye to his crew.

Spike Spiegel was laid back but was still highly intelligence, through which he tricked many people. Not only that, he was also capable of thinking up quick strategies for fighting or even in order to steal important things. His pickpocketing skills got the attention of the Red Dragon Syndicate group, who kept him under their wing.

Spike follows Bruce Lee and is very skilled in the Jeet Kune Do style and French Kicks, through which he defeated many of his opponents. He also uses the Jericho 941 or Ruger P85 weapon for shooting and is a great pilot of a converted Asteroid called Swordfish II, which consists of four machine guns and can launch multiple missiles. It can also fire a single plasma cannon, which is so powerful that it can destroy a small spaceship.
