Daichi Sawamura is the captain of the Karasuno volleyball team.

The Karasuno High Volleyball Team is the main team in Haikyū!! series. Daichi Sawamura, Asahi Azumane, Ryūnosuke Tanaka, Yū Nishinoya, Shōyō Hinata, Tobio Kageyama, and Kei Tsukishima make up the starting lineup of the Karasuno.

At the moment, Karasuno is well-known for its lightning-fast attack executed by Kageyama and Hinata, as well as its unique members: Kageyama, the "King of the Court" from Kitagawa Daiichi Junior High; Nishinoya, the champion libero from Chidoriyama; and Hinata, the 164-cm-tall middle blocker.

Daichi’s Skills

Daichi Sawamura was a third-year student at the Karasuno High School. He once also served as the team's coach while the original coach, Ikkei Ukai, was in the hospital. He currently works for the Community Safety Division of the Miyagi Prefectural Police.

Daichi's strong receive is his weapon, not his attack. He is a defensive specialist, although both he and Shinsuke Kita acknowledge that he is not a defensive expert. He and Nishinoya are frequently charged with managing challenging receives (like Oikawa's serve) or covering for errors made by other teammates.

Additionally, Daichi makes tactical or formational changes to deflect the opponents' attacks. His lack of a coach during his freshman year forced him to acquire many techniques independently, contributing to his mastery of the game.

He has gotten better with his solid receive, flying fall receive, and soft block. In addition, he claims that he can see the opponent spiker's moves with greater clarity than before. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that he can read the opponent spiker's course using their shape.

  • Solid Receive: Daichi is one of the team's defensive pillars and frequently has to handle some of the most challenging receptions. He can save both the difficult jump floaters and the potent spike serves because of his ability to receive both overhand and underhand. His ability to figure out the spike's course by examining the spikers' forms has led to his expertise in receiving.

  • Back Row Attack: Daichi increased his offensive engagement by making a back-row attack following a coordinated strike. Despite not having the same level of skill as Asahi and Tanaka, he is nonetheless capable and has supported his team at crucial moments. Because Daichi is in the back row, opponents are least prepared for him to spike, which makes this approach more effective.

  • Feint: The Karasuno captain rarely uses this approach, although he has demonstrated his ability to execute a phony shot. His opponents are unprepared for this strike since he doesn't use it frequently.

  • Rebound: Daichi demonstrates that he can perform a rebound during his match against Shiratorizawa.
