2015 World Championships: Arun Vishnu and Aparna Balan crash out

After a gruelling encounter, India’s Arun Vishnu and Aparna Balan crashed out in the opening round of the Badminton World Championships, after losing 21-18 10-21 24-22 to Evgenij Dremin and Evgenia Dimoava of Russia on Monday.

The opening game began on a keen note as both pairs exchanged leads at the start, but at the 6-6 mark it was Dremin and Dimova , who started to assume control of proceedings, taking at 11-8 lead at the interval mark. After the break, The match began to get a bit close but at the 19-16 mark the Russian pair gained vital 4 game points and the Indian pairing’s efforts to reduce the deficit proved in vain as Dremin and Dimova won the opening game 21-18.

The second game began on a better note for the Indian pair as they won 4 out of the first 6 points, and then maintained that lead, despite Dremin and Dimova palying some fine badminton, managed to hold on to a slender 11-8 lead at the interval mark.

After the break, Balan and Vishnu continued to have the hold on proceedings, racing away to a 18-9 lead and then gaining 10 game points,which they converted in the first instance itself to win the game 21-10 and bring the match back on level terms.

The decider started on a rough note for the keen note as both pairs won 4 of their first 8 points. It proved to be tight contest throughout and despite putting in a serious fight, it was the pair of Dremin and Dimova who took a decisive 11-10 lead at the break.

After the interval, the match proved to be an absolutely thrilling affair and despite putting their very best, Bala and Vishnu lost the battle of nerves to Dremin and Dimova 22-24 and crashing out of the competition.
