The Indian challenge came to an end at the 2016 Bonny China Masters as PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, as well as the pair of Jwala Gutta/Ashwini Ponnappa, all crashed out in the quarter-finals of this Grand Prix Gold event in Jiangsu, China on Friday.

Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold winner HS Prannoy met the World No. 1 Chen Long for the second straight week after losing a marathon three-game thriller at Singapore. But this time, the 23-year-old Indian seventh seed could not put up much resistance and succumbed to a 10-21, 15-21 defeat in 46 minutes.

In women’s singles, the fourth seed PV Sindhu fell to the World No. 18 Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand for the second consecutive time after having lost their All England Open showdown this March.

It was a mighty effort from the 20-year-old Indian in the second game but it was still not enough as the Thai shuttler closed out the 21-17, 21-19 win in 38 minutes.

In women’s doubles, former World Championships bronze medallists Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa had a tough task as they faced the top seeds Luo Ying and Luo Yu in this last-eight clash. The Chinese duo dashed all hopes of the Indian pair with a 21-11, 21-14 victory in 39 minutes.
