Lucknow, August 18, 2013: The 2nd day of the Lucknow Leg in the path-breaking Vodafone IBL saw intense competition between both the teams. Banga Beats clinched victory over Awadhe Warriors by 4-1 on their home ground at Babu Banarasi Das UP Badminton Academy, Lucknow today.

Earlier in the day, in the Women’s singles category Carolina Marin won the match in straight sets beating recent World Championship bronze medal winner P. V Sindhu. Both the matches of Men’s Singles were won by Banga Beats.

In the Men’s singles P. Kashyap won the tie and said, “I injured my ankle in the second set but the crowd cheer pulled me along. There was no way I could have let down a crowd so supportive. Lucknow has always been very dear to my heart because I won my career’s first tournament here during the Syed Modi Badminton Tournament. Srikanth gave his 100 percent but was not at all under pressure for playing against a senior. Let this be the beginning off my winning streak in the league.”

P. Kashyap further added “I played under lot of pressure after my earlier loss in Delhi. I had to prove myself and make the team win. Every win is important because each loss pushes us down the points table and puts pressure on the entire team.”

Carolina Marin, Vodafone Player of the Tie said, “I had heard about the fiery game moves of Sindhu post her win at the recently concluded World Championship. I had to make an all together different game plan to beat her. I was initially nervous but gained confidence by the end of first set.”

Post their win, Mathias Boe said, “I was looking forward to get a chance to play in the IBL and winning has only been a crowning glory for me. The crowd here is fantastic. I have never seen such an encouraging crowd anywhere in the world wherever I have played. I hope to win all the matches.”

Post his win, Hu Yun said, “I am very excited today and happy to get the final win in two straight sets. I thank the crowd here which has been supportive all through. Our spirits are high and we hope to beat Awadhe on their home ground.
