In 2012, Bauer caused a stir after dipping into the world of politics on social media. Following a debate between former President of the United States Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, the pitcher took to social to condemn the then-leader of the country.

“Obama looked childish and petty tonight. I’m ashamed that he is commander in chief of this great nation," Bauer posted online.

Discussing politics online, especially as a celebrity, is rarely a good idea, as there is a likelihood that someone will have an issue with what is said. This turned out to be the case for Trevor Bauer's take on Obama.

“I have three rules. One: no feelings. As soon as I sense you’re developing feelings, I’m going to cut it off," Bauer explained. "I’m not interested in a relationship and I’m emotionally unavailable."

The former Cincinnati Reds ace explained that he had a few rules when it came to relationships at the time, something that sparked controversy, with some calling it a sexist statement.
