The Cincinnati Reds have a plethora of free agents now that the 2024 season has concluded. Whether by virtue of an expiring contract or a declined option/qualifying offer, the Reds have eight players who could be on their way to new teams. The players they have will likely need to be replaced with other players from free agency, though they can still re-sign players through this process.
Cincinnati Reds players who've entered free agency
#8. RHP David Buchanan
David Buchanan's contract came to an end this year. Now, he can sign with whatever team he wants for next year. In 2024, he only appeared once, throwing 3.1 innings of decent ball with a 2.70 ERA.
#7. RHP Buck Farmer
Buck Farmer is hitting free agency. The Reds opted not to extend his deal, and he can sign elsewhere. Out of the bullpen, Farmer was good last year. He recorded a 1.7 bWAR, 3-2 record, 3.04 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 71.0 innings this year.
#6. 1B Ty France
Ty France was a trade deadline acquisition last year for the Cincinnati Reds. He came over from the Seattle Mariners because his contract was expiring. He's a free agent since the team did not extend him. It was ultimately a poor year for France, posting a -0.6 bWAR and a .234 batting average over nearly 500 at-bats between both teams.
#5. RHP Ian Gibaut
The Reds declined to tender a contract with Ian Gibaut after the season. Players on any team's 40-man roster with less than six years of MLB service time must be tendered a contract or immediately enter free agency. In effect, the Reds just didn't want Gibaut anymore, so he's available.
#4. RHP Jakob Junis
Jakob Junis' contract ended, but he is one of the few Reds coming off a good season. He was hampered by injuries and limited to just 67.0 innings, but he was 4-0 with a 2.29 ERA and 51 strikeouts. He could be in line for a multi-year deal.
#3. C Luke Maile
Luke Maile is now a free agent after the end of his contract with the Reds. The backup catcher was brought back last offseason on a short contract, and he can now sign with whatever team in the MLB. Once again, he had a troubling season with -0.5 bWAR and a .178 batting average.
#2. 1B/OF Nick Martini
Nick Martini's contract with the Reds ended after the 2024 season. It was not a quality year for the left fielder, who recorded a 73 OPS+ and a .272 OBP over the season. The player is a career .252 batting average hitter, so he could bounce back on a short contract elsewhere.
#1. SS Amed Rosario
At the end of October, the Reds designated Amed Rosario for assignment. They opted to move on from the shortstop after a disappointing year. He cleared waivers and can now sign with anyone as a free agent fresh off his -0.1 bWAR season. He hit .280 with three home runs on the year, but that was in 332 at-bats.
