The World Baseball Classic just means more to some teams and players. Fans can see this in the way some of the teams play and how their fan base has shown up to support them.

Team Dominican Republic is one of the teams where winning this tournament would mean the world to them. A few players were asked whether they would rather win this tournament or a World Series, with the majority wanting to win this tournament.

There's nothing like representing your home country. Players take pride in that. They feel more connected to the WBC than any other team they have been a part of.

The World Baseball Classic helps grow the game. Young fans will watch the tournament and the passion the players are playing with and want to be just like them.

"THIS is the difference," one fan tweeted.
"Playing for the love of your country means something to a lot of people. Nothing wrong at all with taking huge pride in that," said another fan.

Fans are torn on the response. Some understand why players hold this tournament in such high regard. Others think the answers would switch if it were closer to the MLB postseason.

Some fans believe the World Baseball Classic is better because it's international, as opposed to MLB, which is limited to North America. That would be true if the WBC were held more often, but it's only held every couple of years.

Team Dominican Republic's early exit from the World Baseball Classic is shocking

Team Dominican Republic was the favorite to win the tournament before the tournament started. Their roster, on paper, was better than any other team in the tournament. What happened?

They got zero favors being put into pool D, which was referred to as the "pool of death." They had to battle with the likes of Team Venezuela and Team Puerto Rico. It was easily the toughest pool in the entire tournament.

While their pitching kept them in games, they couldn't hit when it mattered. Team Dominican Republic left 20 runners on base in their two losses. Teams can't win baseball games by leaving that many runners on.

As they finish third in their pool, they'll have another chance to represent their country in the next WBC. Teams who finished last in their pool must battle their way back into the tournament the next time it is scheduled.
