Wherever New York Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez went, detractors frequently followed. In 2013, a very well-known one joined the list.

When Rodriguez admitted to using performance-enhancing substances in 2013, the business tycoon and 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump, fired back.

Trump joined the Twitter trend to insult Rodriguez personally, making it clear that he was upset with the former Yankees star. Here is what he tweeted:

The @Yankees should immediately stop paying A-Rod—he signed his contract without telling them he was a druggie. - Donald J. Trump

This was not the first time Donald Trump took a shot at the star as in 2012 he had tweeted about A-Rod when the latter moved out of his building.

Asking why my dislike of A-Rod--dishonorable dealings with me on an apartment deal - Donald J. Trump

A-Rod was a star MLB player and a major part of the Yankees' success can be attributed to him.

In an interview with ET, Donald Trump laid into Rodriguez and said:

"A-Rod is a bad guy. He's not a good guy. I have known him for years, he has lived in my building for years."

Rodriguez expressed his desire to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in an interview. With his damaged reputation as a result of his admission that he used performance-enhancing drugs during his playing career, A-Rod and his supporters were aware that it would be a challenge for him to be inducted into Cooperstown:

"There's rules, and you have to follow the rules. I made those mistakes, and at the end of the day I have to live by those mistakes. Whether I get in or not — and let's be clear, I want to get in, I hope I get in, I pray I get in — if I don't, I think I have a bigger opportunity yet again."

After 22 seasons at the highest level, with time divided between New York Yankees (2004–2016), Texas Rangers (2001–2003), and Seattle Mariners (1994-2000), former MLB shortstop Rodriguez announced his retirement from the game in 2016.
