The Houston Astros will be without All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve to start the season. Altuve suffered a fractured right thumb in the quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic.

On Thursday, general manager Dana Brown gave an update on a possible timetable for the slugger's return. He seemed optimistic that Altuve could return to the team in June.

Altuve had surgery last week to address the fracture. He was placed on the 10-day IL on Thursday. This is encouraging news for the fanbase.

The team figures he will ramp it up when he gets the doctor's OK. Altuve is a gamer, so expect him to return to the field quickly.

"It's Altuve. He will beat early June." one fan tweeted.
"Good to hear it," tweeted another fan.

Houston Astros fans are thankful Jose Altuve is only expected to be out until June. They were preparing for the worst when they saw their All-Star second baseman go down in the World Baseball Classic.

Altuve is one of the shortest players in the league. Fans from other teams have taken to Twitter to poke fun at him for moving to a smaller cast. They didn't think it would be possible.

The Houston Astros should manage without Jose Altuve until he returns

While the Houston Astros will miss Jose Altuve, they have a roster full of elite talent. Players like Kyle Tucker, Yordan Alvarez and Alex Bregman can step up and pick up the slack.

For now, the team will turn to Mauricio Dubon to replace Altuve. Dubon played in 83 games for the Astros last season. He slashed .208/.254/.366 at the plate with three home runs. While he's not nearly as talented as Altuve, he should be a solid replacement.

All eyes will be on Jose Abreu, as this will be his first season in something other than a Chicago White Sox uniform. The team signed him in the offseason to help give them some more power in the middle of their lineup. Abreu often struggled at the plate during the colder months in Chicago, so going to the Astros made perfect sense. He's going to be great next to Alvarez in the lineup.

This team has the means to be competitive without one of its leaders. Don't be surprised if the Astros don't skip a beat to start the season.
