This year's World Series will be between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees and the singing of the national anthem will be one of the major ceremonies taking place before Game 1.
A rumor on Reddit suggests that the MLB is bringing back Ingrid Andress for the ceremony. However, that seems highly unlikely after her National Anthem mishap earlier this season during the All-Star week. The rumor appears to stem from a joke on Reddit, so is very unlikely to become a reality.
Ingrid Andress was the singer for this year's national anthem at the Home Run Derby. Her time on stage went viral as the country singer performed one of the worst-received renditions of the Star Spangled Banner in recent memory.
Andress later admitted to being drunk during her performance. She apologized in a post on Instagram and mentioned she was going to rehab:
“I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologise to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition,” Ingrid Andress had written.
It is important to note that at the time of writing, the singer for the anthem has yet to be announced. While it is possible Ingrid Andress may have gotten the help she said she needs and the MLB might want to give her a chance to be a success story, it is highly unlikely that it will be here at the World Series.
World Series 2023: National Anthem singers
It has become a tradition in US sports to have celebrities or notable members of the community sing the national anthem at major sporting events. Last year during the World Series the lineup featured Grammy award winners to members of non-profit organizations in partnership with the MLB.
For Game 1, acclaimed singer H.E.R performed the Star Spangled Banner. The following day, Pearle Peterson a club member of the Boys & Girls Club of America, an organization providing voluntary after-school programs for young people, performed the showcase ceremony.
In games 3 and 4, the mantle was taken up by former American Idol winner and multi-platinum artist Jordin Sparks and four-time Grammy nominee Mickey Guyton. Finally, for Game 5, girl band Fifth Harmony's Dinah Jane was in Arizona to sing her rendition of the Stars and Stripes.
