Mike Trout has struggled with injuries of late. The shortened 2020 season (60 games) was the last time the Los Angeles Angels star played a "full" season. Since then, injuries have happened frequently and they've been debilitating to his and the Angels' seasons.
Angels GM Perry Minasian, according to Jon Morosi, is frustrated with how things have gone with Trout's health lately. Morosi said on Wednesday:
"It was a good update yesterday that I received [on Trout's health]... He is expected to have a very strong season."
Minasian himself said during the GM Meetings (from Nov. 4) in San Antonio:
"I think he's extremely motivated. I believe he's doing what he needs to do this offseason to get back on the field. He's extremely frustrated with the amount of games he's played over last four years."
Trout missed the majority of the 2024 season. He started out hot before a meniscus tear in his left knee on April 29. The three-time AL MVP was on track to return but required a second surgery and the Angels shut him down since their season was lost by that point anyway.
How many games has Mike Trout played in each season of his career?
Mike Trout was on an incredible trajectory to be one of the best MLB players for years to come. Unfortunately, injuries have derailed him of late. He is still a virtual lock for the Hall of Fame, but his case has been diminished by a lack of games played recently.
In 2011, Trout played 40 games in his first foray into the big leagues. From there, he played the following amount:
- 2012: 139 games
- 2013: 157 games
- 2014: 157 games
- 2015: 159 games
- 2016: 159 games
- 2017: 114 games
- 2018: 140 games
- 2019: 134 games
- 2020 (COVID season): 53 games
- 2021: 36 games
- 2022: 119 games
- 2023: 82 games
- 2024: 29 games
Following the 2020 truncated season, Trout has largely been unable to play even close to a full season. The former AL MVP played 119 games in 2022, but he has a combined 266 games out of a possible 648 over the last four seasons.
