Baseball Twitter impressed by Netherlands' stellar all-round performance in WBC opener: "With Dutch pitching and hitting, anything is possible"

The Netherlands were off to a solid start in their quest for their maiden World Baseball Classic title. They took on Team Cuba at the Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium in Taichung, Taiwan. The game finished 4-2 in the favor of the Dutch.

The game between the Netherlands and Cuba is the first in Pool A, which also consists of Panama, Italy and the hosts Taiwan. All of the games will take place in Taichung and only two table toppers will advance into the next round.

The Netherlands will be looking to go two better after coming up short in the previous two editions of the WBC. Cuba, on the other hand, hasn't made the finals since 2006 but has shown strong performances. However, they are yet to get past the second round in since their championship game appearance.

The WBC is being held after six years and quite fittingly all fans are excited to witness. They were quick on Twitter to share their reactions.

Team Netherlands will be looking to continue their form in the upcoming games

The Netherlands and Cuba are definitely the frontrunners to top the table in Pool A. With the strongest fixture completed on their first gameday, the Netherlands will be looking to continue their current form. They will face Panama in their next outing tomorrow as they look to take one foot into the second round. Barring any shocks in their final two games against Italy and the Chinese Taipei, the Dutch are surely on track to repeat their success from previous editions where they finished as Semi Finalists.

Cuba, meanwhile, have a bit of a task at hand as they look to bounce back from a gritty loss. They will take on Italy as their next opponents tomorrow.
