The news was expected and welcome, but Chicago White Sox fans were still swooning over a video of rookie outfielder Oscar Colás finding out that he made the team on Wednesday.

In a clip provided by the White Sox, Colás is shown smiling from ear to ear with overwhelming joy as teammates welcome him to the big leagues. Upon sitting in front of his locker, Colás immediately dials his mother and tells her the good news.

Colás, a non-roster invitee who played professionally in both his native Cuba and Japan before being signed by the Chicago White Sox and assigned to their minor leagues in 2022, will be the team's starting rightfielder on Opening Day.

"Oh my gosh! I was praying to God for that! Oh my god I'm going to cry!" - Chicago White Sox rookie Oscar Colás' mother after her son called her with the news that he had made the team

Colás' mother had wise words for her son:

"Now keep working hard to stay there."

Many White Sox fans implored Colás to heed his mother’s sage advice as the 24-year-old prepares to take the field for their season opener on the road against the Houston Astros on Thursday.

After several seasons of trying to shoehorn sluggers into their outfield lineup simply to get their bats in the order, many Chicago White Sox fans are pleased that their team is putting out a defensively-sound outfield of Colás, Luis Robert, and Andrew Benintendi in 2023.

Former injury-plagued right-fielder Eloy Jimenez has been installed as the team's designated hitter. Another hit first-field later outfield project, Andrew Vaughn, has been anointed as the successor to the departed Jose Abreu at first base.

If nothing else, who doesn't love this new trend of MLB teams sharing videos of their rookies being told that they've made it to "The Show"? It might get old one day, but that day is not today.

Many MLB prognosticators place Colás high in the running of preseason contenders for American League Rookie of the Year. Last year, playing on three teams spanning Class-A to Class-AAA, Colás hit .314 with 23 home runs and 79 RBI. Over four seasons of playing in Japan, Colás hit .282 with 28 homers and 116 RBI.
