Dexter Fowler recently announced his retirement from the MLB after 14 seasons. Throughout his career, Fowler played for the Colorado Rockies, Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Angels and the Chicago Cubs.

In a recent interview with MLB reporter Alanna Rizzo, Fowler opened up about his decision to retire from baseball. He shared that he has been feeling a lack of motivation for the sport and that it started to feel like a job rather than a passion. Another reason for his decision to retire was the amount of opportunities he was getting off the field in other areas related to baseball.

Dexter Fowler's career highlight was the 2016 season with the Chicago Cubs when they won the World Series and Fowler was named an All-Star. Looking back at that year, he said that they had "unfinished business from 2015" and that "we all knew what time it was. That's how all that came about."

On his decision to retire, Fowler said:

"I felt like it was just time. I had a lot of opportunities off the field. I told my parents, 'When I stop having fun going to the field, I'm gonna retire.' and it started to become a job just to get ready and all that, so I decided to hang them up."

Dexter Fowler still has a lot happening off the field

While we may not see Dexter Fowler as a player in the MLB again, he still plans to be associated with the sport in some capacity. In the interview, the former World Series champion also spoke on his plans to rejoin the Cubs, only this time as a pre- and post-game analyst.

He revealed that the Cubs had been in touch with him since November and he had enough time to think about it and make up his mind. He also stated that there are other options open to him in the future:

"There's a plethora of opportunities and I'm just trying to sift through those and see where it takes me."

Dexter Fowler's retirement from the MLB marks the end of a successful career filled with highlights, achievements, and memories that will last a lifetime. Despite the challenges he faced, he looks back on his time in the league with gratitude and appreciation, and is excited for what the future holds.
