The Chicago White Sox ended their 2024 season with the worst performance of any team in the league, finishing with a dismal record of 41 wins and 121 losses, resulting in the lowest winning percentage at .253.
White Sox fans were understandably furious with the team's persistent losing streak, often chanting "Sell the team" during games. According to a recent report by The Athletic, those chants might soon become a reality.
The report indicates that White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf is 'open to selling' the team and is in "active discussions" with a group led by former MLB player Dave Stewart.

Several baseball fans reacted to the news on Reddit, with some White Sox fans expressing dissatisfaction with the idea:
“He is going to pump fake them like Arte Moreno,” one fan said.
“Can we just keep them in Chicago plz,” another fan wrote.
“Somehow this will end worse for us,” one fan added.
More reactions from fans soon followed:
“Lol he won't,” one comment read.
“If a new ownership group tries to move the team I am done with baseball,” one fan said.
“Careful white Sox fans not every new owner is a good thing, just look at what David Tepper is doing in the NFL with the Panthers,” one fan added.
The Athletic’s Brittany Ghiroli also reported that Dave Stewart's group has been working to bring a new MLB team to Nashville, Tennessee, which has been mentioned as a possible destination if the White Sox decide to relocate.
Jerry Reinsdorf opened up about White Sox’s terrible 2024 season
The White Sox set a new record this 2024 season for the most losses in a single season in modern MLB history. The previous record was held by the 1962 New York Mets who had 120 losses.
Discussing his team’s performance last month, White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf said (via NY Post):
“Everyone in this organization is extremely unhappy with the results of this season, that goes without saying. This year has been very painful for all, especially our fans. We did not arrive here overnight, and solutions won’t happen overnight either.”
During the 2023 season, the White Sox fired their longtime Executive Vice President Ken Williams and General Manager Rick Hahn. In August 2024, the club fired manager Pedro Grifol and replaced him with former center fielder Grady Sizemore.
