The Houston Astros will be without Jose Altuve at the start of the season. The All-Star second baseman fractured his right thumb in the quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic.

Altuve had surgery on Wednesday in Houston and will stay there until the team returns. He'll be out for at least two months. The Astros hope Altuve can return at the start of June.

Losing Altuve for any amount of time is going to be tough for the Astros. He's one of the best second basemen in the game. It will be difficult for the team to find somebody to fill his shoes for the time being.

His presence at the plate is incredible. Altuve is one of baseball's best leadoff hitters. It will be interesting to see how Houston manages their lineup with Altuve.

"I'm hoping for a speedy and proper healing. God Bless you Jose!" one fan tweeted.
"And don't y'all dare rush him back. I need top tier regular szn Altuve," another fan tweeted.

Houston Astros fans hope Jose Altuve can return quickly and fully healthy. They don't want to see him try to rush back before he's ready.

Altuve's injury at the World Baseball Classic was unfortunate, but you can't condemn the tournament. Injuries happen in every sport, and all the players, including Altuve, knew the risks before signing up.

Can the Houston Astros remain dominant without Jose Altuve?

The Houston Astros still have an impressive roster, minus Jose Altuve. They added one of the best warm-weather hitters in the league by signing Jose Abreu. Abreu oftentimes struggled at the plate at the start of the season for the Chicago White Sox. Once it starts to heat up, so does his bat. He's going to be the perfect bat to pair with Yordan Alvarez.

Expect a monster season from Kyle Tucker. He's on a one-year deal, searching for a long-term contract. He will give it his all and show everyone that he's one of the top outfielders in the league this season.

The Astros will still be competitive without Altuve. The team has a next-man-up mentality. They won't sit around and wait for Altuve to get healthy; they will compete.

It will be interesting to see how well this team does without Altuve.
