A decade-long run of Opening Day victories came to an end for the Houston Astros as the defending World Series champions lost 3-2 to the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night at Minute Maid Park.

Houston Astros fans were despondent after the Opening Day loss.

However, if the Astros were to have an April fire sale, blow up the roster after a one-run loss, and rebuild for the future in 2011-12 style, then there are a lot of opposing general managers ready to pick up the phone for some wheeling and dealing with the bevy of talented players on the Houston roster.

Meanwhile, White Sox fans, whose team was predicted by many to be American League representatives in the 2022 World Series, but struggled to an 81-81 finish while the Astros stormed to the MLB title, were quick to gloat over moving to 1-0 in the new season.

Baseball fans from around the league let their hate pour down on the Houston Astros.

When supporters of the New York Yankees, whom the Astros defeated in the ALCS, and the Philadelphia Phillies, whom Houston defeated in the World Series, can't wait to unleash their arrows and barbs on you, it signifies that you did something right in 2022.

Of course, when the Oakland A's fanbase gets involved – after their team ended 46 games behind Houston in the AL West Division last year – that's simply strange.

The Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox engaged in a taut pitcher's duel between their two aces: Framber Valdez and Dylan Cease. Neither figured in the decision as the game remained scoreless until Houston broke through with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

However, Chicago tied the game in the eighth and scored two more off Houston closer Ryan Pressly in the ninth to take the lead for good.

The two teams will face each other three more times between now and Sunday.
