Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown has outlined his priorities for signing contract extensions with core players, including their talented third baseman Alex Bregman. Bregman, who has been with the Astros since 2016, has quickly established himself as one of the top players in Major League Baseball. He has consistently been a productive player both at the plate and on the field.

Alex Bregman was drafted by the Houston Astros in 2015. In his seven years in the Major Leagues, Bregman has been an All-Star twice, has won a Silver Slugger award, and has been a key contributor to the Astros' World Series victories in 2017 and 2022. He has also been a consistent performer with a career batting average of .279, an on-base percentage of .384 and an OPS of .874.

In today's Major League Baseball, retaining top talent is a challenging task as free agency is a major factor in player movement. Players can opt to test the free agency market and sign with the team of their choosing, leaving their original team with a significant void to fill. To prevent this from happening, contract extensions are becoming increasingly common.

At a press conference at Minute Maid Park on Thursday, Dana Brown spoke highly of Alex Bregman.

“He’s a really good player and he’s had an outstanding Major League career, I think we would try to lock him up. We will be in talks with Boras about that, but at the end of the day, I believe in keeping players like that. He’s got great energy, great respect. His personality in the clubhouse is infectious. Everything I’ve heard about him from people that have been around him is even more outstanding.”

Alex Bregman likely to continue his illustrious career with the Houston Astros

Alex Bregman is currently under contract with the Houston Astros until 2024. However, Dana Brown sees this as the perfect time for both parties to sign an extension and keep one of their core players locked in for the future. Brown has known Bregman from a young age since scouting him in college for the 2015 MLB draft, and their history makes it likely the player will sign an extension.

Bregman is not only a talented player but also a leader in the clubhouse, and his contributions to the team both on and off the field make him an important player to retain. Brown recognizes this and has stated that extending Bregman's contract is a priority for the Houston Astros.
