Max Muncy Injury Update: Dodgers slugger hits 10-day IL with oblique strain

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed Max Muncy on the 10-day IL after the veteran slugger suffered a strained right oblique. It is a massive blow to the Dodgers as Muncy has been an important piece of one of the most potent lineups in baseball. In a series of corresponding moves, the Dodgers activated Jason Heyward from the IL, while promoting outfielder Miguel Vargas and pitcher Ricky Vanasco.

According to Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, the injury occurred during batting practice on Thursday. It remains to be seen how long Max Muncy will remain out of the lineup, however, his right oblique strain is currently considered "mild."

It is a disappointing turn of events for Muncy who has been enjoying another productive season for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Prior to his placement on the 10-day IL, the 33-year-old has posted a .223 batting average with 9 home runs, 28 RBIs, and 24 runs scored.

Muncy has been a steady force for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the middle of their lineup. His presence will be missed as the Dodgers have relied upon him behind the likes of Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman. Los Angeles will need some of their depth players such as Andy Pages and Chris Taylor to step up in Max Muncy's absence.

Max Muncy is just the latest of a growing list of Dodgers players to hit the IL this season

Although the Los Angeles Dodgers have emerged as one of the top clubs in the MLB, they have had to overcome a number of injuries to do so. Max Muncy is just the latest member of the club to hit the IL. His placement comes only a few days after the team announced that young pitcher Emmet Sheehan would be forced to undergo season-ending elbow surgery.

Recently the team has been slowly getting some of their players back in the dugout. As previously mentioned, the Dodgers activated veteran outfielder Jason Heyward from the IL, who has been limited to only 4 games this season.

Another star who has worked his way back onto the team has been Walker Buehler, who had not pitched in nearly two years after undergoing the second Tommy John Surgery of his career. The Dodgers are a legitimate threat to win the World Series this year, however, they will need to remain healthy to do so.
