Today’s injury report has some interesting names with big updates. It features recent moves from five major clubs, including the New York Yankees, New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers, across the league ahead of the trade deadline.
Let’s look at the report to see how close players are to returning to the lineup and if that’ll affect the team's approach to the roster update.
MLB Injury Update - July 19

Clayton Kershaw
Time could not be more perfect for Clayton Kershaw to help the Dodgers address their rotation concerns, especially when Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto are unavailable due to injuries. Recovering from last year’s shoulder surgery, Kershaw has yet to start his season. On Saturday, he pitched three scoreless innings for the Triple-A Oklahoma City.
He is scheduled to play another game, perhaps his final rehab assignment, before debuting his season, according to David Vassegh of MLB Network.
Depending on his performance, Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts will make the final decision. However, possibilities are open for Kershaw.
“Certainly if he looks as good as he did last night on Friday, I think anything should be on the table,” Roberts said (h/t Los Angeles Daily News). “I’m definitely open to that.”
J.D. Davis
The Yankees reinstated infielder J.D. Davis from the 10-day IL list on Friday. It took him only five games to hit the Injury List after upsetting his stomach prior to the All-Star break. Yankees rookie Ben Rice and veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu covered for him in recent games after he replaced the team’s every day 1B Anthony Rizzo for a brief time.
Although it might be good news for the Yankees infield department, Davis’ .077/.200/.154 stat line hints at a possible trade or a release ahead of the trade deadline for a better infield option.
Michael Harris II
Atlanta Braves centerfielder Michael Harris II was placed on the IL list with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain last month, playing against the Tampa Bay Rays. He was placed on a 10-day injury list and has been out of the game for a month now.
According to The Athletic’s David O’Brien, Harris' injury break might be extended for at least two to three weeks.
“Center fielder Michael Harris II, who’s missed a month with a Grade 2 hamstring strain and could be out at least another two or three weeks,” O’Brien wrote in his recent newsletter in The Athletic.
Kodai Senga
A talented starter of the New York Mets, Kodai Senga, was sidelined due to injury in pre-season and is awaiting his debut for this season. He was being examined for a shoulder/triceps injury and has made great progress.
According to Tim Healey’s report on Newsday, the Mets have Triple-A rehab plans ready for Senga, which could be as early as next week. He could get activated in the Atlanta Braves series from July 25.
Jordan Montgomery
The big news for the Arizona Diamondbacks fans is that Jordan Montgomery has given a timeline for returning. Nick Piecoro, a reporter for The Arizona Republic, shared an update from D-backs manager Torey Lovullo on X (formally Twitter). Lovullo confirmed that Montgomery threw three innings, 56 pitches, in a simulated game.
The feedback was promising, and if Montgomery can check all the other boxes set by Lovullo, he’ll return from the Injury List for next week’s Kansas City series, starting on Monday.
