New York Mets fans horrified as team’s new sleeve advertisement unveiled: "That’s the worst patch you could have possibly come up with"

The New York Mets seem to have found a way to embarrass their fans even when they aren't playing.

The Mets recently announced a multi-year partnership with local hospital New York-Presbyterian, which includes free onesies for all babies born at one of the hospital system's affiliates, as well as a sleeve patch to be worn on team uniforms beginning with Friday's home opener against the Miami Marlins.

Just as Mets fans stopped ridiculing the team for forcing the organization's colors upon newborns, New Yorkers got their first look at the large new sleeve patch that will adorn the team's jersey going forward.

Needless to say, it was a bit more than Mets fans could bear on an off-day.

Upon seeing the logo that has seemingly left many disappointed, many New York Mets fans got busy on Photoshop with their own variety of even larger patch concepts.

Notably, this is not the first time a jersey patch has left Mets fans scratching their heads. Many thought that the team's "2009 Inaugural Season" patch to commemorate the move into Citi Field, a design that reminded most of the Domino's Pizza logo, could not be topped.

Furthermore, other fans offered a medical-themed alternative that fits with the Mets' packed injury list.

If there's one thing that perhaps unites the MLB Twitterverse in regards to Thursday's Mets news, it is the opinion that the team's new sleeve patch is way too big and possibly way too bland.

Sleeve advertisements are a part of modern-day life in MLB. Most fans, except those forced to watch the OXY patch-clad Houston Astros, are often able to accept, or at least ignore the uniform addition.

However, while the Mets may or may not beat the Astros in the 2023 World Series, New York has possibly toppled Houston for the title of worst-looking sleeve patch.

In a twist of fate, Mets players aren't delieriously charging out of the dugout to celebrate this victory.

The Mets' chief revenue officer Jeff Deline said in a press statement:

"The Mets have always believed that baseball’s impact can extend off the field and into the local community."

The jersey advertisement will bring the New York Mets organization a reported $1 million a year.
