Austin Wells, Alex Verdugo, Salvador Perez and Hunter Renfroe home runs tonight
The first home run of the game at Yankee Stadium came from Salvador Perez's bat, who crushed Carlos Rodon's curveball to left-center field for a 422-foot solo home run in the third inning.

The next inning saw Alex Verdugo smash a go-ahead two-run home run against Brady Singer for a 374-foot swing in right-center.
In the sixth inning, Hunter Renfroe broke the 3-3 tie with a solo home run off Rodon that landed 376 feet deep in left field.
Perhaps the most pivotal home run of the night came in the seventh inning when Austin Wells pulled his lever for a go-ahead three-run swing, driving in Juan Soto and Aaron Judge for a commanding 7-4 lead.

With the win, the Yankees improved to 83-61 while the Royals slid to 79-66. The Yankees lead the AL East with the second-placed Baltimore Orioles 1.5 games behind. With only three weeks remaining, the race for the postseason heats up, and it'll be interesting to see if the Yankees can clinch home advantage.
Both clubs meet again on Tuesday, where the Royals will have ace Seth Lugo (15-8, 3.08 ERA) on the mound who will oppose the Yankees' RHP Marcus Stroman (10-7, 4.03).

Krutik Jain is a journalist who has been reporting on baseball at Sportskeeda since 2022. It was in 2018 when the baseball bug bit Krutik, and already a cricket fan, he credits baseball's rules and Clayton Kershaw's pitching to have hooked him to the game.
A Kershaw and Mookie Betts fan, Krutik rates his favorite team LA Dodgers triumphing over Tampa Bay Rays in the 2020 World Series as his best baseball moment so far. His answer to the perennial "one player from the past you could meet" question is Jackie Robinson. Despite never having seen him play, Robinson's impact, legacy and trail-blazing journey have left an indelible impact on Krutik.
A rigorous fact-checker, Krutik likes reporting on the technical aspects of the game as well as off-field elements. When not watching baseball, Krutik is busy playing cricket, staying up to date with the happenings around the world and hiking.
