When the New York Yankees raced out to a 5-0 lead in Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday, even the most optimistic of Dodgers fans might have been slightly worried. However, LA Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly was confident that his team would be able to come back as soon as he saw rapper Fat Joe on the Jumbotron midway through the game.

In a postgame interview, Kelly talked about how he called the Dodgers' title-clinching comeback way before it happened.

"When we were down 5-0, they put Fat Joe up on the board, and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s an easy dub now,'" Kelly said. "You know Fat Joe is the curse. You know, [then] they started kicking the ball around and playing Yankee defense.
"I looked over at [Brent] Honeywell and said 'The Fat Joe Curse,' watch. We started chipping away, chipping away, chipping away. And bad play, bad play, and I end up getting my second one (World Series title) with the Dodgers."

Fat Joe also performed at Yankee Stadium before the start of Game 3 of the World Series, which the Yankees lost 4-2.

Yankees' comedy of errors gives Dodgers momentum to seal World Series win

When the LA Dodgers went up 3-0 in the World Series, it was expected that the New York Yankees might go out with a whimper and the clash with enormous hype might not live up to the billing after all. In Game 4, the Bronx Bombers got a much-needed foothold in the series and registered a resounding 11-4 win which undoubtedly lifted the mood in the clubhouse.

The effects of that victory seemed to have carried over to Game 5 as the Yankees continued to hit like they did in the previous night and led 5-0 by the end of the third, with Aaron Judge also hitting a homer and seemingly shook off his postseason slump. It looked like the team with a history of being serial winners had finally come to the party and the battle of the titans will be decided in seven games.

That may well have been the case if the Yankees' defense did not completely collapse in the fifth inning. On plays that are almost always routine outs, the hosts made a series of errors, allowing the Dodgers to rally and tie the game, ultimately winning 7-6 to clinch the World Series.
