Juan Soto, who is under pressure to deliver after his record-breaking deal in the offseason, reached base six times in the series finale. He went 3-for-3 at the plate with three walks.

The former World Series winner became the first Mets player since Pete Alonso in 2019 to reach base six times in a game. Following the Rockies game, Alonso shared his feelings on Soto matching his record.

“You couldn’t ask for a more perfect day offensively,” Alonso said. “His commanding of the strike zone, him hitting the ball hard all over the yard, staying in the middle of the field just crushing liners, it was a perfect day for him. He’s been killing it. I feel like he’s going to continue to do so for sure.”

Pete Alonso had a solid night himself, going 3-for-6 and smashing two home runs to drive six runs. Jeff McNeil had two home runs on the night, driving in five runs.

Pete Alonso inches closer to Mets home run record

With his two home-run outing, Pete Alonso took his tally to 243 home runs, nine short of Mets legend Darryl Strawberry's record of 252 homers. Alonso's first home run of the game tied him with David Wright for the second most home runs for the franchise.

Despite overtaking Wright on the home run leaderboards after his second home run, Alonso is not chasing personal milestones.

"I don’t think that is really going to settle in because we’re still in the middle of the season,” Alonso said after the Mets' series sweep. “Right now, it’s just focus on winning.”

Although Alonso is still nine home runs behind Strawberry, he passed the Mets icon for most multi-home run games for the team. Sunday was the 23rd time Pete Alonso had more than one home run in a game.
