The New York Yankees have been struggling in their outfield posts this season, despite having great players like Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. Even though the Yankees had the option of calling up top prospect Jasson "The Martian" Dominguez, they instead chose to go with Alex Verdugo.
With many fans enraged by the decision, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman addressed this situation in one of his interviews. Cashman mentioned that the decisions are always taken in the favor of the team, and as of now, the management noticed Alex Verdugo to be the best fit for the vacant position on the field.
The fans, however, expressed their distress over this decision, as they can't see the veteran Verdugo justifying his spot.
"Every day Red Sox, Orioles, Rays and Jays fans must all be thanking God that Cashman is guaranteed Yankees GM for life," one fan stated.
"The Yankees are going to throw away a chance at a World Series because they are either too stubborn to admit they're wrong or because Judge/Boone like DJ/Rizzo/Verdugo enough to keep them around..." another fan stated.
Some other fans shared a similar sentiment about the decision taken by the New York Yankees about Alex Verdugo.
"I'm fine with seeing Verdugo go back to free agency, use The Martian full time next year and obviously keep Soto if possible," one fan remarked.
"Nice service time manipulation lol. Gonna be funny to see The Yanks bomb out in the DS as usual," one fan wrote, referring to the Yankees not calling up Dominguez to preserve his service time.
"29 teams laughin right now," one fan expressed.
Meanwhile, one fan had a confession to make about the whole Verdugo situation.
"I hate Verdugo so much I feel bad for Yankee fans there I said it," one fan mentioned.
Alex Verdugo tries not to run unnecessarily
Alex Verdugo didn't put much effort into this Wednesday night's 10-6 loss to the Rangers. He was seen running slowly after reaching first base on his hits to third base and second base in his first two at-bats.
Many thought that Verdugo was lazy, as his sluggish running was quite blatant for a lot of viewers. But he explained post-game why he didn't go all-out.
"There are certain plays where you’ve got to push, like when you’re trying to break up a double play,” Verdugo said per NJ.com. “But with nobody on and I roll one to first or second and I see that the guy has possession and he’s going to make a transfer, I don’t really see a big deal to burn out the wheels."
Later, Verdugo also gave a hint that he might have a minor injury in his legs, however, he ended this conversation by saying "It’s really nothing serious."
