Cincinnati Reds pitcher Wade Miley was recalled to the major league last week but his return has been surrounded by controversy after his name surfaced in new court filings regarding the death of former teammate Tyler Skaggs.

The documents alleged Miley supplied drugs to Skaggs during their time together with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Skaggs was found dead in his hotel room after a suspected drug overdose in 2019.

While the court filing accused Miley of supplying prescription drugs to the deceased pitcher, the veteran hurler set the record straight on Friday.

"I hate what happened to Tyler," Miley said. "It sucks. My thoughts are with his family and friends. But I'm not going to sit here and talk about things that somebody might have said about me or whatnot.

"I was never a witness for any of this. I've never been accused of any wrongdoing. And I’m not going to sit here and talk about something …. I’ll take baseball questions. That’s about it.”

Wade Miley's name first came up in a lawsuit filed by Tyler Skaggs' family against the Los Angeles Angels in June 2021. At the time, Creative Artists Agency's Ryan Hamill testified:

"(Skaggs) came clean. He said he had been using – I believe it was Percocets – and he said he got them through Wade Miley.”

Reds manager Terry Francona unaware of Wade Miley's involvement

Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona refused to comment on his player's involvement in the ongoing controversy, saying he was unaware of the case.

"From where I sit, other than me caring about Miley and certainly having respect for the sadness of the family, there’s nothing for me to say,” Francona said. “I don’t know anything about it. I don’t think commenting makes a whole lot of sense.”

Wade Miley signed a minor league deal with the team during spring training and was recalled by the Reds last week. He pitched five innings, conceding three runs in his last start in Cincinnati's 7-4 win against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday.
