Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager is undergoing surgery for a sports hernia on his right side on Friday which has ruled him out for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Seager hasn't played a game since Sept. 2 after being placed onthe 10-day injured list with right hip discomfort. Rangers GM Chris Young announced a new development on his injury on Thursday, stating that the shortstop will require surgery and will miss what's left this season.
On Friday, Seager's wife, Madisyn, posted an update from the waiting room as she hoped for a successful surgery. She put out a heartfelt note in her story in the backdrop of the couple's shadow image.
"As I'm sitting in the waiting room waiting for Core to get out of surgery I can't help but just be in absolute awe of him. He's having his second surgery this year and not once has he said "why me" or complained. He takes everything in stride and has the most positive mindset. Is he disappointed? Yes of course. We both are," Madisyn wrote in her story.
"But as a team we have taken so much on and will continue to do so. Sharing because I want you guys to know that he's an even better person off the field than on it and because I'm emotional that my husbands in surgery and seeing him in pain is the hardest thing ever. But learning from him, I'm being positive."
Corey Seager's second surgery of the year, Chris Young remains optimistic
As Madisyn mentioned, this will be the second surgery Corey Seager will undergo this year. Earlier in January, he had surgery for a left side hernia. The injury reportedly occurred near the end of the regular season last year and aggravated as Seager played through it to help the Rangers clinch its first World Series last year.
“He recovered great from the first surgery, and I’m confident he’ll do everything he can to recover great from the second one,” Young said.
The decision to undergo surgery on Friday comes in lieu, as the team wants him ready by spring training next year. The two-time World Series MVP missed a considerable chunk of spring training this year, leading to a slow start to the season.
Having last played a couple of weeks ago, Corey Seager leads the team with 30 home runs this season. He has hit .278 with a .865 OPS in 123 games.
