The bidding war over Juan Soto's services is likely to begin soon, with a few teams standing out as true contenders. According to reports, five teams have officially submitted offers, but MLB insider Jon Morosi said that those offers are likely not final.

"It's not just the amount of teams that I find interesting, it's the timing of how relatively early we are in the process," Morosi said (0:20), via MLB Network's 'Hot Stove.' "We don't believe these are final offers, but at least to know where the initial stakes are is helpful. We're still about a couple weeks away from the Winter Meetings. I am of the mind that the team that gets Juan Soto will be the most desperate team."

The New York Yankees, New York Mets, LA Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox have made offers to Soto. Morosi believes that the Yankees and Mets are well clear of the others in the hierarchy.

He added that Soto could sign before the winter meetings. The initial offers coming in have started the process early. Since Soto is the biggest domino in free agency, he will likely sign first. Once he does, the teams that miss out will quickly pivot to other players.

Steve Cohen addresses Juan Soto offer

Steve Cohen and the New York Mets are a big bidder for Juan Soto. It has been reported in the past that Cohen will not be outbid in his pursuit of the former New York Yankees star. However, whether that yields a signing remains to be seen.

With an offer officially out, Cohen set the record straight on his team's chances to Sports Illustrated:

“We’re gonna find out," Cohen said on Tuesday. "It’s either yes or no, right? There’s no in-between and time will tell.”

Cohen has spent big in the past and the Mets have a lot of money off the books after the 2024 season, so they can afford to throw whatever dollar amount they want at Soto. Whether or not it's enough to pry him away from the Yankees remains to be seen, but Cohen isn't wavering.
