Trevor Bauer may not have pitched in the MLB since 2021, but he has done an excellent job at keeping himself in the public eye. The former Cy Young Award winner has used social media to keep his fans and followers entertained with his videos and posts.
The former Los Angeles Dodgers star's MLB career may be over at this point, but his consistent engagement on social media suggests he may have a future as a full-time baseball influencer. Bauer was at it again recently, taking on a challenge first completed by one of the greatest players of his generation: Ichiro Suzuki.
The Japanese future Hall of Famer went viral in a video where he threw four consecutive baseballs, knocking down a bat standing on end each time. While some critics claimed the video of the Seattle Mariners legend was edited, it didn’t stop Bauer from trying his hand at the impressive feat.
The former Cincinnati Reds pitcher set up four bats and stood at roughly the same distance Ichiro was in the video. Needless to say, it proved far more difficult than it appeared in the viral clip.
"Dude, this is going to be so hard. four baseballs, four consecutive throws, knock all four bats down," Bauer explained as he laid out the rules of the challenge.
It wasn’t easy for the reigning Mexican League Pitcher of the Year. In the video, Bauer made nine attempts, with his best result coming during his fifth try, when he managed to hit two bats. Unfortunately for Trevor Bauer, that was as good as it got.
The pitcher vowed to come back and try again, so it remains to be seen whether he can accomplish Ichiro's challenge.
Trevor Bauer recently challenged himself to record a strikeout with fruits and vegetables
Bauer isn’t shy about taking on unusual challenges, especially when they involve showcasing his pitching abilities. In addition to attempting Ichiro’s bat challenge, Bauer tried to record strikeouts with common grocery store items.
The former NL Cy Young Award winner used apples, potatoes, cucumbers, and limes to try and strike out a batter. Although he failed to do so, he was surprisingly effective with some items, most notably potatoes. It remains to be seen what challenge Bauer will take on next, but at this point, it’s nearly impossible to rule anything out.
