What is Aaron Judge's weight? Exploring where he stands among MLB's heaviest players

New York Yankees v Texas Rangers - Game Two
Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees smiles as he rounds the bases after hitting his 62nd home run of the season against the Texas Rangers during the first inning in game two of a double header at Globe Life Field on October 4, 2022, in Arlington, Texas.

New York Yankees star Aaron Judge had an unforgettable 2022. He surpassed Roger Maris' 60-year-old American League record of 61 homers in a single season when he hit a dinger off Texas Rangers’ Jesús Tinoco. He also ended up winning the American League Most Valuable Player award, the first Yankee to do so since Alex Rodriguez in 2007.

Post this sensational season, he signed a nine-year deal worth $360 million with the New York Yankees. He was also named the Yankees' new captain, their first since the retirement of "Captain Clutch" Derek Jeter in 2014.

There isn't much about Judge's season that has not been talked about. His staggering contract, however, seems to have presented him with the opportunity to break another record, although he may have to wait for a while.

MLB writer Anthony Castrovince shared an interesting possibility on Twitter:

"Incredible note from Tom Verducci on @MLBNetwork: Judge is 282 pounds and will be signed through his age-39 season. He'll have a chance to become just the second player ever to hit a home run at 270 pounds or more and at age 37 or higher."

According to baseball-reference.com, Aaron Judge weighs a mighty 282 pounds. According to a study by Baseball-America, the average weight of regular position players in the MLB was 208.5 pounds in 2020. This means that Judge outweighs the average-sized MLB player by over 70 pounds.

This chart by MLB.com, which compares the height and weight of all MLB hitters in 2022, also confirms the same. Jesus Aguilar comes closest with 277 lbs.

Aaron Judge is also the heaviest centerfielder in MLB history, outweighing the likes of Willy Mo Peña and Carlos Peguero by over 20 pounds.

Among leadoff hitters, he is bested only by Adam Dunn, who weighed 285 lbs and played for the Cincinnati Reds and the Arizona Diamondbacks, among other teams.

Roger Maris Jr., son of the legendary Roger Maris, has advised Aaron Judge to focus on leading the New York Yankees to an MLB World Series win, rather than looking to replicate his 2022 performance, terming it an anomaly.

The Yankees are chasing their first World Series win since 2009 and should the newly anointed captain lead them to the promised land, Maris Jr. feels the 30-year-old superstar won't be burdened with repeating his heroics from the previous season.
