Trevor Bauer has had one of the most confusing, roller coaster professional baseball careers in recent years. The 32-year-old from North Hollywood, California, has gone from an inconsistent starter to a Cy Young Award winner, to struggling to ply his trade in Japan.

After his MLB career has seemingly drawn to an end following accusations of sexual assault and domestic violence, the troubled star moved to Japan. Trevor Bauer eventually signed an incentive-laden one-year, $4 million contract with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of the Nippon Professional.

In Japan, he has struggled, finding himself demoted to the DeNA BayStars farm team in an attempt to rediscover his form against weaker competition. While the move is not expected to be permanent, Bauer's inability to dominate a lower level of Japanese baseball is cause for concern.

While Bauer continues to attempt an MLB comeback in Japan, he is a long way from his hometown of North Hollywood, where his parents Warren and Kathy raised him.

His father Warren worked as a chemical engineer and received his engineering degree from the Colorado School of Mines. His father's fondness led the Bauer family to incorporate science behind the art of pitching, creating various training techniques to help improve Trevor's game.

While there is less available information about Trevor's mother Kathy Bauer, she was incredibly supportive of his pursuit of a career in professional baseball. At a young age, Warren and Kathy hired a private pitching coach to help him improve his game.

The former Cincinnati Reds pitcher is one of two children of Warren and Kathy, who also have a younger daughter named Gracie. The Bauer family have been incredibly close throughout their lives, often posting photos together.

A look at the timeline of Trevor Bauer's MLB career

Bauer was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the third overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft. He only pitched a total of 16.1 innings with the club before he was traded to the Cleveland Guardians in a massive, three-team, nine-player trade.

Trevor Bauer spent seven seasons with the Cleveland Guardians, earning his only All-Star selection in 2018, his final season with the club. In 2019, he was again part of a three-team trade that saw him move to the Cincinnati Reds, where he would spend two seasons.

While with the Reds, Bauer won his first and only Cy Young Award during the 2020 season, before signing a massive contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in free agency prior to the 2021 season.
