Jasson Dominguez, known as "The Martian," is one of the most highly regarded prospects in baseball. The New York Yankees signed the Dominican outfielder in 2019 for a whopping $5.1 million signing bonus. He is yet to play in a major league game for the Yankees.

During Spring Training, Jasson Dominguez participated in eleven games, where he slashed .455/.520/1.045 with four home runs, a double, nine RBIs, eight runs scored, three walks, and a stolen base. Despite his strong performances, the Yankees announced yesterday that their top prospect will be assigned to minor league camp.

This move was expected, as Dominguez is yet to play above the rookie ball level and needs more seasoning before he is ready for the big leagues. Dominguez's raw talent is evident in his speed and power potential. He also showed a good eye at the plate.

However, he must improve his approach at the plate as well as his ability to make contact. His three strikeouts in nine plate appearances are troubling, especially given the small sample size.

Jasson Dominguez also needs to improve his defensive abilities. While he has a strong arm and good range, he needs to work on his fly ball reads and routes to the ball. During spring training, he made a few missteps in the outfield, indicating that he still has room to improve.

Yankees top prospect Jasson Dominguez will look to continue his excellent form in the minor leagues

Jasson Dominguez got plenty of playing time in the minor leagues in the 2022 season. He started the season with the Single-A Tampa Tampons, with whom he played 75 games, before being moved to the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades to play another 40 games.

He ended the season with a brief stint with the Double-A Somerset Patriots, playing 5 games with them. During the entire season, he recorded a .266 batting average over 657 at-bats with 21 home runs, 32 doubles, eight triples, 78 RBI, 99 walks and 46 stolen bases.

While some may see the decision to send Dominguez down to the minors as a setback, it is merely a necessary step in his development as a player. The New York Yankees want to give him the best possible chance to succeed, and this move should help him achieve that goal.

Maybe one day soon he will help them challenge for the World Series. Fans can look forward to seeing "The Martian" back in action soon, as he continues to grow and improve his game in the minors before his breakthrough in the MLB.
