New York Yankees recently announced the re-signing of Greg Allen in a trade deal with the Boston Red Sox. The outfielder who had a short stint in the Bronx, was brought back because of an upward mobility clause in his minor-league contract with Boston.

Allen been in and out of the MLB since 2017. In his rookie season, Allen made an immediate impact, stealing 21 bases in just 91 games and playing a crucial role in helping Cleveland reach the playoffs. Since moving on from Cleveland, he had a one year stint with the Padres before the Yankees came calling.

The outfielder was a non-roster invitee to the 2021 Spring Training for the Yanks. During the season, after the COVID-19 outbreak within the roster, Greg Allen was called up to the major league. Allen played in 15 games for the Yankees, hitting .270 with no home runs and two RBIs. Just like his previous years, he won fans over with his speed between the bases.

The outfielder was involved with the Pittsburgh Pirates organisation for majority of last season. In January of 2023, the 30-year-old signed a minor-league contract with the Red Sox with an upward mobility clause that stated the team had to either promote him or trade him if another team offered him an immediate spot on their big league roster.

The Bombers' fans were elated as they took to Twitter to voice their appreciation.

What does Greg Allen's signing means for the Yankees?

As an outfielder, Greg Allen is being looked as an option to increase the New York roster depth. Aaron Boone can look towards the 'speedster' to come in handy while replacing outfielders such as Aaron Judge and Harrison Bader, if the need arises due to injury or otherwise.

With newer rules that have made it easier for baserunning, it will be exciting to see how Allen goes about his business in his second stint in New York. He will look to work on his defensive skills if he wants to make it big.
