When ex-SF Giants player Aubrey Huff discussed his harrowing mental space during struggles with suicidal tendencies

Former San Francisco Giants star Aubrey Huff is as well known for his past behaviors as he is for his time spent playing baseball in the major leagues.

Huff had multiple addictions and he once opened up about giving serious thought to ending his life. In 2017, Huff discussed his psychological health and struggles:

“In 2014, I found myself in my closet, on my knees, with a .357 Magnum, hammer pulled back, staring at myself in the mirror," Huff said. "I was ready to pull the trigger. This was a low-low point in my life. I had hit rock bottom at that moment.”

Aubrey Huff wrote the book "Baseball Junkie: The Rise, Fall and Redemption of a World Series Champion" with Stephen Cassar. The hope was that it might prevent others from developing addictions, anxiety, sadness, and suicidal thoughts.

Aubrey Huff wanted to welcome his calmer self

Huff stated that he was looking forward to burying the vicious part of himself and was prepared to embrace a calmer and more sober self.

“Yeah, he’s dead. And I’m glad,” Aubrey Huff said. “Because ‘Huff Daddy’ was just an insecure, scared (witless) little kid trying to be somebody he’s not.”

When his self-published book "Baseball Junkie" was about to go on sale on Amazon.com, it quickly garnered one-star ratings from people who had not even opened the book or read a single page.

In his memoir, Aubrey Huff paints himself as nothing less than a villain. He goes into great detail on how, throughout his time with the Giants from 2010 to 2012, he was a drug addict, a liar, an egomaniac, a wife-beater, and a terrible father.

Huff played for the San Francisco Giants (who won two World Series), as well as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Houston Astros, Baltimore Orioles, and Detroit Tigers. Huff announced his retirement from baseball in January 2014 and began working as a baseball color analyst.
