When Mets pitcher Justin Verlander came under fire for his hypocrisy on Roberto Osuna's domestic violence saga

Justin Verlander, the New York Mets pitcher, came under the radar for his hypocrisy in Roberto Osuna's domestic violence case and his silence raised eyebrows.

In 2018, Houston Astros closer Roberto Osuna was suspended by MLB after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

As per USA Today, Verlander said:

"I just want to listen, we don’t know the details of much. I haven’t really paid attention to (Osuna's case), for obvious reasons – it wasn’t really in my life.

He added:

"Now it is. That’s probably going to be a personal thing that stays in the locker room and won’t be talked about publicly, as those things are."

Verlander tweeted his disgust when Osuna's video came out.

Astros closer Osuna made his first public comments on his accusations of domestic violence. In an interview with USA Today's Bob Nightengale, he said:

"No one knows what happened but obviously me, everybody is quick to judge me and say all kinds of things about it. I'm just waiting for everything to come out so people can really wait to see what happened. I would really like the fans, and everybody else, [to] learn what the media says is not true."

Roberto Osuna spent three seasons in the Blue Jays' minor league system after being signed as a 16-year-old out of Mexico.

Once the Astros won the 2017 World Series, Justin Verlander was named ALCS MVP and shared the Babe Ruth Award. He reached 200 career victories in 2018, being the 114th pitcher in big league history to do so and the 20th-fastest to do so.

In 2019, Verlander struck out his 3,000th batter, making him the 18th pitcher in major league history to reach that milestone.
