When Nolan Arenado and the Colorado Rockies' relationship went sour amidst offseason trade rumors

Nolan Arenado, who now plays for the St. Louis Cardinals, was once an All-Star third baseman for the Colorado Rockies.

Arenado made his MLB debut with the Rockies in 2013 and remained with the team until the end of the 2020 season. During the end of his tenure with the Rockies, his relationship with the front office grew strained, and he vented publicly about feeling "disrespected" by the administration.

"There's a lot of disrespect from people there that I don't want to be a part of," Arenado said in a text to MLB.com in 2020. "I don't care what's being said. I just know that I feel disrespected over there."

Arenado was responding to general manager Jeff Bridich, who said the team had listened to offers for the third baseman.

"We have listened to teams regarding Nolan and really nothing has come of it. We are going to move forward pretty much as we expected -- with Nolan in the purple and black and as our third baseman. So we can put this to bed."

"I don't want to complain anymore" - Nolan Arenado ahead of 2020 season

Nolan Arenado said in an interview with Stephanie Apstein of Sports Illustrated that he needed to "be optimistic" going into the 2020 season for the benefit of his team.

"I'm not gonna be moping around," he said. "That doesn't bring out the best in me or these guys. I don't want to be a bad leader. I don't want to complain anymore. It would be counterproductive."

After spending the 2020 season with the Rockies, Arenado was sent to the St. Louis Cardinals along with $51 million in exchange for Austin Gomber, Mateo Gil, Tony Locey, Elehuris Montero and Jake Sommers.

Arenado is regarded as one of the finest third baseman, both offensively and defensively. He is the only infielder to win the Gold Glove Award in each of his first 10 seasons and was part of the American team that won the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
