In February 2005, former Oakland Athletics star Jose Canseco appeared on Mike Wallace's "60 Minutes" and acknowledged the use of steroids during his MLB career.

Besides, he also opened up about injecting steroids into Mark McGwire's rear. Apparently, Canseco and McGwire were former teammates in Oakland Athletics for seven MLB seasons, helping the team win a World Series title in 1989.

Here's how the conversation rolled between Mike Wallace and Jose Canseco on "60 Minutes":

Mike Wallace: You write repeatedly about injecting steroids and growth hormones with and into Mark McGwire. Tell me about your firsthand experiences with McGwire and steroids.
Canseco: Just the first time, injecting them in his buttocks. It wasn't like you gave a lot of thought. It was something so common. What we did more times than I can count was go into a bathroom stall together, shoot up steroids. After batting practice or right before the game, Mark and I would duck into a stall in the men's room, load up our syringes and inject ourselves. I would often inject Mark. I injected him probably twice. But it wasn't like, I mean, we would just walk in, and a lot of times they were pill form. A lot of times, you would just, a quick injection of whatever and that's it.
Mike: I'm just repeating what you say in the book. And if we're to believe what you say in the book, 'I would often,' not twice, 'inject Mark.
Jose: Well, I think it was more inject ourselves. I think I injected him. I mean, this is a long time ago. Once or twice for sure. I didn't keep track. An athlete may prepare his needle and may ask another athlete to inject him quickly. And that's the way it works.
Mike: And these were not allowed at that time in the league?
Jose: Absolutely no.

Canseco's revelation on Mike Wallace's "60 Minutes" is in parallel with what he mentioned in his 2005 tell-all book, "Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big", Jose Canseco.

Other than Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco has also called out Juan Gonzalez, Rafael Palmeiro, Iván Rodríguez and Jason Giambi as fellow steroid users.

In January 2010, ESPN's Bob Ley conducted an interview with Mark McGwire after the former MLB first baseman confessed using steroids throughout the 1990s, including in 1998 when he smashed Roger Maris’ single-season home-run record.

Despite his admission, McGwire refuted Jose Canseco's claims of getting injected by Canseco in the clubhouse:

"Jose is out there doing what he’s doing, but I’m not going to stoop down to his level. None of that stuff happened. He knows it. I know it. I’m not going to stoop down to that level," said McGwire in the interview.

Consequently, Jose Canseco was upset with McGwire's denial and fired back at his former teammate, saying:

"I’ve got no problems with a few of the things he’s saying, but again, it’s ironic and strange that Mark McGwire denies that I injected him with steroids. He’s calling me a liar again"
“I’ve defended Mark, I’ve said a lot of good things about him, but I can’t believe he just called me a liar. There is something very strange going on here, and I’m wondering what it is. I even polygraphed that subject matter, that I injected him, and passed it completely. So I want to challenge him on national TV to a polygraph examination. I want to see him call me a liar under a polygraph examination.”

Furthermore, Canseco went on to claim that Mark McGwire had the potential to break the single-season home run record without using steroids.
