Braden Smith had a remarkable high school basketball career at Westfield, earning Indiana's Mr. Basketball award in 2022. He became Westfield's all-time leader in points with 1,629 and 453 assists while leading the school to its first sectional title in 105 years. Smith averaged 18.3 points, 6.0 assists, and 6.0 rebounds per game as a senior, shooting 281 career three-pointers. In three sectional games, he put up 24.3 points, 8.0 assists, and 5.3 rebounds, shooting 70 percent from the field and 61.9 percent from three-point range. Smith as a junior, averaged 22.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 2.7 steals as the team finished the season with a 18-5 record. He committed to Purdue over Gonzaga, Villanova, Oregon, and Indiana in April 2021. He also became the first Division I basketball recruit to go to Westfield.
