In 2003, she returned to her alma mater to work as an assistant coach where she would lead Dartmouth to two Ivy League championships. Banghart also earned her master’s degree in writing and leadership development while also working as the recruiting coordinator for Big Green.

Courtney Banghart's head coaching career began at Princeton in 2007 where they have never managed an appearance in the NCAA tournament. For the next 12 seasons, Banghart led Princeton to new heights and became the winningest coach in the program’s history. In 2015, she was named one of Fortune Magazine’s Women’s 50 Greatest Leaders and was honored with Naismith National Coach of the Year. She ended her Princeton career with a record of 254-103 while leading the program to seven Ivy League titles and eight NCAA tournament appearances. After 12 years, Banghart decided to join North Carolina on a five-year contract in 2019. She has led the Tar Heels to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and signed a contract extension in 2023 until the 2027-28 season.
