Dain Dainja plays as a forward for the Memphis Tigers and is a redshirt senior in the 2024-2025 season. Before transferring to Memphis he played for Illinois from 2020-2024. During the 2022-2023 season, Dainja was Illinois' fourth-highest scorer and second-highest rebounder, posting 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He scored 63.6% of his shots from the field, becoming the second player with the most field-goal percentage in the Big Ten conference. Defensively, Dainja posted 1.2 blocks per game, ranking him ninth in the conference. His career-best figures were against Bethune-Cookman scoring 22 points with four blocks and four steals. He also scored 20 points, and 15 rebounds and made five blocks against Kansas City. Dainja recorded his first career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in his Illinois debut against Eastern Illinois. In the Big Ten conference, Dainja scored 20 points, and seven rebounds against Michigan State. He added 17 points and nine rebounds against Iowa. Dainja also contributed 13 points from six of six shots against UCLA.

His last season as a senior was shortened due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dainja was named to the All-State second team by the Associated Press and also was selected for the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Series, playing for the green team. He was named to the All-Northwest Suburban West Conference Team.
